Audi RS6 Stage 2 ECU remapping and tuning development

After the sheer success of our Stage 1 package for the Audi RS6 we instantly started work on our Stage 2 package which starts to remove the hardware limitations of the stock Audi RS6. The issue with all Stage 2 packages is to start reducing the amount of heat soak and also improving intake temperatures.

Hardware modifications

We can offer a couple of options as far as exhaust system but we have found the best system if your looking for gains but also being an easier option on your wallet is the Milltek system which comes in many flavours depending on what setup and noise level you require but still all yielding the greatest results.

We have worked on many Audi RS6‘s running decat downpipes, 200 cell sport cat systems and both resonated and non resonated giving varied amounts of sound track and volume so every aspect can be tailored to your requirements.

The gains

This package we see not only a jump in peak horse power but also a quantum leap in torque output which once again means savage 0-60 times and ridiculous mid range and top end pull.

This package is good 750bhp+ and 1000nm of torque running on good fuel which is also very much a key feature for any high performance petrol engine.

Audi RS6 tuning

The Audi RS6 has become synonymous with have huge potential for gaining horse power and torque. So this is why we set on first of all seeing what a stock vehicle can achieve and Audi have serious out done themselves with there latest 4.0 BiTurbo V8 which not only sees great tuning potential but also MPG and efficiency has been at the forefront of there minds.

So our Stage 1 package is purely software manipulation of the Bosch MED17.1.1 which controls all aspects of the engine and how it behaves and the gains are magnificent! Seeing 700bhp and 900nm+ just from software is incredible!

What’s involved?

Well there are two ways of communication to the Bosch ME17.1.1 found in the RS6 and RS7 and through the latest in tuning communication hardware and software we can access the files via the OBD port which makes life very easy indeed! Sometimes however the protocols do not support some software variations which requires the ECU to be removed from the vehicle and programmed on the bench which allows full communication to all aspects of the ECU and also manual password removal is required.

The outcome

What this translates to is Supercar beating performance! With no detrimental affect to fuel economy with like for like driving but blistering power on tap which would see any supercar off so you really get a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

The Gains

As mentioned above the vehicle will easily see the 700bhp mark and 900nm of torque this we have since developed further with our stage 2 package which you can follow a link here

Tuning is big business and you can easily double the price of your car if you go for the works. You can rebuild the engine, suspension, change the exhaust and even switch out the wheels in the quest for added horsepower and reduced weight. Or you can just remap the car.

A serious rebuild on your car is going to cost lots of money, whether it’s a hatchback or a top of the line supercar. New pistons, conrods, a bigger turbo and more are all conventional options, but the cost of throwing perfectly good components in the bin and replacing them with even more expensive, specialist parts, can boggle the mind.

Every car, though, even the big horsepower firebreathers from Lamborghini (http://www.gadtuning.co.uk/lamborghini-remapping/) and Ferrari, is tuned on the safe side. They are designed ‘globally’, so they will run on near toxic fuel in the far reaches of the globe and run all day in sub-Saharan temperatures. If you’re looking for engine remapping in London, you don’t have to worry about these safety margins, so you can afford to turn up the wick on your engine.

An engine remap is the simplest way to unleash a little extra performance. It changes the ignition timing, the turbo pressure and a few other crucial parameters. It’s all in the software, so you don’t actually have to worry about stripping and replacing parts, so the labour costs are minimal, too. We can remap your chip in less than an hour and the gains can be impressive.

ECU remapping is undoubtedly the cheapest way to release extra horsepower and torque from your car and you can benefit from anti-lag, too. This ensures your car has positive boost pressure between gear changes, providing relentless acceleration right through the range. In combination with removal of the Mass Air Flow filter, you will feel a real difference in your car and a quick remap will make it feel like a totally new vehicle. You can even have a number of maps, if you want an insane version on Sunday morning and a relaxed and economical machine during the week (http://www.gadtuning.co.uk/wt3/).

It’s cheaper than replacing hardware, won’t cause you problems with your warranty and is the safest, most cost-effective way to make your car go faster.

There are thousands of people around the country who are currently feeling furious that they spent extra money on their car in order to buy an environmentally friendly vehicle, only to discover that they’ve purchased a model that may have been secretly spewing pollution at a rate way beyond what was advertised.

Many of the drivers who are potentially affected by the emissions scandal will own luxurious, stylish cars, like the Audi A5 or the Volkswagen Scirocco. They are now faced with the possibility that they’ll have to choose between accepting that their cars are going to emit more harmful gases than they had any right to expect, or potentially reducing performance in order to cut emissions.

GAD Tuning can help by ensuring that the best possible compromise between emissions and power is achieved by your car. Many vehicles can be persuaded to produce less emissions and greater economy without sacrificing a significant amount of performance. This is because manufacturers deliberately map their vehicles’ engines to perform less well than they are capable of performing in order to allow some flexibility for upgrades when updated versions of the model are introduced.

With a turbo equipped engine such as Volkswagen’s TDI diesel, it is generally possible to extract a great deal more performance without sacrificing fuel economy. This means that there is almost certainly overhead for concerned owners to reduce their emissions without sacrificing performance.

At the same time, if owners feel that the damage is already done and they might as well enjoy their vehicle to its full potential, there is plenty of scope to increase the power of the 2.0 litre TDI engine that is the focus of the scandal.

At present, with the threat of recall hanging over Volkswagen drivers’ heads, it is probably best for drivers to wait to see what the company is going to do to redress the issue with emissions test cheating software in their cars. However, no-one should worry unduly about the consequences for their vehicle. A reasonably priced solution based around ECU remapping is likely to be available once the Volkswagen Group have atoned for their sins.

Diesel engine cars have found favour in recent years thanks to their outstanding economy figures, which helps with company car tax and helps put money back in your pocket. Did you know, though, that a diesel engine is a prime candidate for tuning?

There is a running joke on motoring website Pistonheads that says nothing is faster than a remapped BMW 335d, and cross country there’s some truth behind the jest. That’s because a diesel engine is almost invariably combined with a turbo, which makes it easy to extract extra power. Beyond that, the higher temperature that diesel burns at ensures that the engines are built with a much stronger ‘block’, the basic body of the engine. That means it’s easy to boost the engine with almost no concerns over longevity and a simple remap is the best way to do that.

Boosting the pressure on the turbo is the straightforward way to greater performance. A modern turbodiesel comes with a massive amount of horsepower and, more importantly, torque in any case. A decent modern repmobile that returns 50 mpg will leave a supercar from the 90s in its dust, but it’s possible to unlock a formidable amount of extra performance. The best part is that with careful tuning through the electronics, the actual real world economy is barely affected.

Of course, you can go the other way with your diesel and detune it with the help of a map (http://www.gadtuning.co.uk/blog/economy-remapping/), which gives you even greater range on a tank of fuel and makes your car even more frugal than you ever thought possible.

If you do big miles then this is absolutely the way to go. You won’t notice the slight dip in performance on the motorway, but you will appreciate the extra pounds in your pocket. If you bought a diesel thanks to the tax advantages, though, or indeed if your company insisted and have a thirst for a little extra performance, engine remapping (http://www.gadtuning.co.uk/performance-remapping/) can give you a real boost and turn your turbodiesel into a real giant-slayer that still cruises past the pumps time and again.

Today even the leading supercar manufacturers like Ferrari and McLaren are slowly switching to turbo power, which means there are big gains to be had with a simple remap.

Smaller capacity, turbocharged engines offer greater fuel economy than the big naturally aspirated powerplants that are increasingly going the way of the Dodo. Porsche has finally accepted the inevitable and introduced turbo engines across its line-up, and BMW has accepted the future and turned to turbo power for its M3, M5 and M6. There are a few sticking to natural aspiration, but they are few and far between.

That’s great news for the performance tuning industry, because turbo-powered cars are easily tuned with a carefully thought out engine remap (http://www.gadtuning.co.uk/performance-remapping/). You can gain up to 30% on the overall horsepower with virtually no loss when it comes to the real world fuel economy.

The engine mapping dictates the boost pressure, the ignition timing and several other key parameters that dictate the car’s performance. Manufacturers have to worry about longevity in all conditions and have to build in a significant margin for error in case the car isn’t maintained as it should be, or if it’s running all day in hot conditions.

It simply isn’t good business for a manufacturer to push an engine to its limit, but if you know you’re going to maintain your car as it should be and drive it in a temperate climate like the UK, then you can afford to push the envelope much further than the manufacturers ever would.

So if you’re thinking about engine remapping in London then it doesn’t matter if you’ve got a Porsche 911 Turbo S (http://www.gadtuning.co.uk/porsche-remapping/), a McLaren 650S or a Nissan GTR-35, there’s a world of performance waiting to be unlocked in the electronic code. It’s cost-effective, too, compared to the expensive exhaust systems and mechanical performance upgrades that can soon rack up to insane amounts with the world’s leading sportscars.

If you want the most potent weapon on the streets of London, or Essex, then a remap might be just the kick in the pants your car needs.

It’s a common misconception that ECU remapping is the sole preserve of motorists wanting to achieve higher speeds. Let’s be honest – ECU remapping can offer precisely that (and who wouldn’t want their Jaguar F-Type to achieve top speeds?), although it’s worth pointing out that ECU remapping offers far more than getting your supercar to achieve an MPH that The Stig would be envious of. There are plenty of reasons to consider ECU remapping, particularly if you want to get the best out of your car – not just in terms of speed, but in terms of performance and longevity, too.

The benefits of engine remapping

If you’re rocking a reliable BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Porsche, Ferrari or even a Bentley, you might be surprised at how engine remapping could improve the performance of your vehicle. By remapping the ECU (which stands for Engine Control Unit) it’s possible to replace the default software on the original chip and essentially tailor it to the needs and requirements of the driver. This can make the driving experience much more enjoyable – for example, it could be something as small as an improvement which means no longer having to drop gear on an incline, or having to change gears less frequently in urban areas with built up traffic. Put simply, ECU remapping isn’t just about increasing speed, it’s about economics. Simple tweaks such as this can actually decrease the amount the driver spends on fuel.

High performance engine tuning

A high performance engine requires a high quality team to tune it. Gad Tuning offer a bespoke service – our passion for tuning and tweaking is unrivalled, and we treat every engine as if it were our own. We take pleasure in optimising vehicles, which is why we’re regarded as the best place for ECU remapping Essex has to offer.

What’s the catch?

None whatsoever. ECU remapping software provided by GAD comes with a lifetime warranty, and there’s a 12 month/30,000 mile warranty on offer for any vehicles less than three years old.

With the benefits ECU remapping offers, the question remains: can you afford not to do it?

This is a common question asked online when people want to know about ECU remapping. To be honest, it is not as relevant as you might think, particularly for high performance cars, as the manufacturer’s warranty really only covers you for manufacturing defects that were in the car when it was made. Since performance marques tend to have better quality assurance, they don’t let cars with defects out of the factory in the first place.

Never the less, a straight question deserves a straight answer, and the answer to this question is “We can’t tell without looking at your specific warranty agreement, but it’s certainly possible that it might”. Manufacturers often have clauses which invalidate the warranty if you have carried out any sort of engine remapping, because they don’t know what kind of things people might be doing, and they don’t want to write a blank cheque for really harsh remappings which could reduce the serviceable life of the engine.

At GAD Tuning, of course, we don’t do things that damage cars. We don’t have to take our software on trust, because we develop it ourselves and keep data on the effect of our remappings. That’s why we’re a provider of ECU remapping in Essex and London to top motorsports teams and to main dealers. These people know and trust us; if a main dealer is prepared to take our tuning advice, that ought to make it clear that whatever the detailed wording of the manufacturer’s warranty, we’re not doing anything that is going to impair the reliability of the car.

And this is why we’re able to offer our own, market leading, warranty on our ECU remapping. It’s underwritten by Hiscox, who are one of the biggest insurance brokers in the world, and (subject to reasonable terms and conditions set out here [http://www.gadtuning.co.uk/terms-and-conditions/]), it means you are covered if you have unexpected repair bills and your manufacturer’s warranty has been invalidated.

By no means all of our competitors are able to offer anything like this. We are able to get the insurance cover that allows us to offer this warranty because we are on the cutting edge of engine remapping in Essex, and we have the experience and data to back up our claims.
